What is White Scars Blog?

What is White Scars Blog?

At first glance it may seem to be a trivial question: obviously it is a blog about White Scars.  Right?  Well it used to be that simple, but 6th edition has changed everything.

When I started the blog the focus was on tactics, strategy, painting, converting, and playing in tournaments with a Space Marine army (generally painted white with lightning bolts somewhere on the model) centered on the mobility and durability that bike platform offered.  The inclusion of allies in 6th edition complicates the mission of the blog as we as gamers are no longer limited to the Space Marine codex.  So the all important question needs to be asked, what is White Scars Blog?

Is the blog...
  • Limited to White Scars only?
  • What about different color schemes?
  • Should allies be covered?
  • What about White Scars and other Space Marine Chapters?
  • What about Xenos bike armies, such as Eldar Jet Bikes?
  • What about Xenos bike armies which pretend to be White Scars?
  • What about armies which use fast models in a similar fashion as bike lists do?
  • Should the focus be on the strategies that bike based builds need to win?
  • Does the inclusion of a single bike squad warrant coverage on the blog?
  • Should anything be covered?
  • A gathering place where cool people hang out and win tournaments with bikes?
  • A place where people like mongols and White Scars themes?
White Scars? Possibly...

The line of what the blog should cover is somewhere between this list of options.

So what do you guys think.  Should the blog cover White Scars only material?  Only Imperial Material?  Or should we cover anything bike related?  Personally, I believe that White Scars should not be limited to a single codex, but rather should be an ideology: a tendency of tactical movement, hard hitting units, breaking conventional norms, and of course SPEEEEEEDDDD!

  1. I agree...even in the old days Ravenwing would be used as examples and references in this blog, i dont see why this blog should be excluseively about white scars!

    1. Yeah you are right. I did write up an article to a series I never finished. Maybe I should finish it in relation to 6th edition? Interested in assisting?

  2. I agree that things shouldn't just be White Scars, but all armies with that similar play style.

Plus with the inclusion of allies in this edition, think of all the things that are available to use. Why not cover some of that as well.

    1. Trust me, I have been thinking a lot about allies in relationship to White Scars. Everything from drop pod Space Wolves, Black Templar terminators, to Jet Bike Eldar, Nob Bikers, and Imperial Guard mob squads.

  3. If you mention one thing that isn't about White Scars, I'm going to unsubscribe.

Nah I'm just kidding- you can write about whatever you want. White Scars seems to work for you, but it's going to get awfully boring if you force yourself to be limited to them. I mean write about whatever you're excited about- the excitement will come out in your writing and it'll be better to read.

  4. I'm only a casual reader of your blog, but I expect to see lists and tactics focused around bikes. If you discuss allies, I'd expect them to be allies for bike armies. If you discuss ork lists, I'd expect them to be biker ork lists.

At the end of the day, its your blog so you can post what you want, but those are my expectations as a casual, non-bike army reader.

I'd like to one day have a bike army myself, so I drop in to see your new posts and hope that one day I'll see something that will inspire me enough to buy a bike army of my own.

  5. My thoughts are nearly identical to BoxerSaint's. I have plans to build a marine bike army and reading the experiences and ideas from this blog have been valued greatly.

As stated above, in the end it is your blog and I am fine with whatever direction this blog goes. I would still find interest in any information shared. Bike based or Bike heavy marine armies and strategies would still be main reason to drop by.

  6. Agree with several posters. I read for info/pics of bike related material.

However, it is titled "White Scars" and while bike heavy they do use other units and even allies. Look at the last couple battle books.

6th may give the opportunity to branch out into other aspects of the White Scar background and unit choices, even past oaths of service (allies).

    The sky is the limit.

I say do what moves you and keep the multitudes complacent with the occasional bike content.

  8. I'm late to this conversation - but yeah, I think the blog should be focused on bike armies. Many of us love White Scars, but for all intents and purposes (especially in 6th with Khan probably benched) they ARE vanilla marines. Ravenwing is good too, especially since you can expect their popularity to explode with lots of people picking up cheap Ravenwing bikes out of the boxed set on ebay.

So my opinion - Space Marine bikes in all flavors are what set this blog apart. I'm sure if CSM bikers ever become viable in a new codex that would make for a few interestng posts. Of course, battle reports and tourneys you guys play in using other armies are always welcome reads, too.

6th Ed may make it tough for vanilla bikers, but I think we're all still interested in discussing where the new ruleset takes us.

    1. I'll have you know that I still plan on using khan. In my first two games he was pretty essential in my current build. I'll have to keep trying him out and seeing how it works out.
